Dr. Jun’ichi Baba holds B.Eng., M.Eng, and Ph.D. degrees all from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan. He joined Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, Tokyo, Japan in 1952. His career in the company is outlined as follows: 1973-1977, general manager of Planning Department, Power & Industrial Systems Division (Tokyo, Japan); 1977-1981, general manager of Central Research Laboratories (Hyogo, Japan); 1981-1985, director and general manager of Corporate Engineering and Manufacturing (Tokyo, Japan); 1985-1996, advisor to the Board of Directors (Tokyo, Japan); 1996-present, consultant to Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (Tokyo, Japan). He received the Prize of Progress from the Institute of Electrical Engineering of Japan for ''Research on Interconnection Equipment for Power Systems'' in 1980 and received the Best Chairman of the Year Award from the IEEE EMS in 1998. He lectured at the Department of Business Administration, Kobe University, in 1997. He is a senior member of IEEE and founding chairman of the IEEE Japan Chapter of EMS. He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Academic Association for Organizational Science, now he is a member of this association. He was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Japan Society for Science Policy and Research Management (JSSPRM) and now senior councilor of JSSPRM. His recent interest is on the management of R&D from the corporate governance’s view. |
